Do you know that two centimeters of water are enough for a baby to drown?

Do you know that an unsupervised baby could you drown in just an inch of water? It is the reminder that the Spanish Association of Pediatrics launched yesterday, whose officials added that drowning can happen in less than 2 minutes. That is why supervision with such young children should be constant, and the adult in charge of the children is irreplaceable: we should never trust that the presence of lifeguards will prevent these accidents.

Here we explained some of the avoidable situations that cause our distraction, but we must always remember that drownings in children under five years, are occurring mainly in private pools or private communities.

So the entire perimeter of the pool will always be fenced, among other measures to adopt, such as picking up water toys when the bath is over and everyone leaves, and whether it will also monitor the bathroom of children who are no longer babies, even if they have learned to swim. On the other hand, in adolescence, girls and boys can be injured when swimming or dive into lakes, rivers, canals, or throwing himself from the rocks into the sea; drinking alcohol increases the risk of drowning. And suction entrapment, resulting in immobilization drowning, or suction injuries to the chest or abdomen, should not be underestimated.

It is recommended that children take swimming lessons as soon as possible, and from a very young age. In recreational aquatic environments (pool, beach)In addition to supervision, the use of flotation vests (better than sleeves or floats) will be useful. Pediatricians and aquatic rescue professionals, agree that mothers and fathers should be prepared to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers; following PAS behavior in case of possible drowning. PAS: protect the victim by taking him to a safe place, alert Emergency Services, assist the injured.

Never leave children alone in or near the water (not even a bathtub), or in charge of other minors.
