Weekly Pregnancy Calendar (Week 1)

First and before I start I want to tell you: Congratulations Mom! It is one of the most beautiful moments in life. MadresHoy wants to give you the weekly pregnancy calendar so that you can follow this great moment step by step. We have simplified and gathered all the information that you will need throughout your pregnancy.

Each week of pregnancy is a new exciting adventure that you, the baby, the father and the rest of the family will live. In our calendar you will find illustrations and a lot of information about the changes you will experience and the baby's development.

The first thing you should do, apart from being very happy, is to go to your trusted doctor or find one, who will accompany you and follow you throughout your pregnancy, just like us. Madres Hoy It is simply a friendly guide that will help you to provide all the information that you require and a sentimental support for you. But never stop going to the doctor, no matter how small your doubt.

The First Consultation

At your first prenatal visit, your doctor will help you determine your estimated due date (EDD). The EDD is 40 weeks (approx.) After the first day of your last period. Remember that the delivery date will be approximate, most babies are born between 38 to 42 weeks after the first day of the last menstrual period and very few women will give birth on the exact date that the doctor has given them.

Another thing that you will hear very frequently from your doctor, magazines, books or from us is that there is a lot of talk every quarter. This means that we are going to divide the pregnancy into trimesters.

  • First trimester starts from week 1 to week 12.
  • Second quarter starts at week 13 through the end of week 26.
  • Third trimester begins in week 27 and will end on the day of delivery.

Your baby's development

It will sound strange but, in this period you are not pregnant yet. The sperm will fertilize the egg at the end of this week, that is, just entering week 2.

The first week corresponds to your menstrual period. Since the estimated due date is calculated from the first day of your last menstrual period, this week is considered part of the 40-week pregnancy even though the baby has not yet been conceived.

Before talking about the sex of the baby, you will have to know that the sex of your child will only be determined at the time when fertilization takes place.

The baby has 46 chromosomes that make up the genetic material and only two (one from the father's sperm and the other from the mother's egg) determine the baby's sex. These chromosomes are known by the name of "Sex chromosomes".

Each Ovum contains a sex chromosome X and a sperm can have a sex chromosome X or a sex chromosome Y. If the sperm that fertilizes your egg contains a chromosome X, you will have a girl; but if it contains a chromosome Y, the baby will be a boy.
Chromosome XX: Female
XY chromosome: Male

Hi, I'm Lili, I'm five months pregnant and I still don't feel my baby's movements. Why?

      Beatriz said

Hi Liliana, how are you? Sometimes the baby's movements are slow to feel. This may be because it does not move much or because it is still very small or also because you confuse those movements with other things in your body. To get rid of any doubts and rule out anything negative about your baby, I recommend that you consult with your gynecologist.

    Greetings and luck!! Bea

Hi Bety, I'm Claudia, I'm five months pregnant and I'm a bit worried because lately I feel like I am short of breath when I speak, and brushing my tongue and making minimal efforts causes me a small spill of urine.
