Today there are several techniques available for many couples with fertility problems to see their dream of being parents fulfilled. There are several types of techniques, some simpler and others more complex, and it will be the medical team who will decide which technique is the best in each case. Today we are going to tell you the types of breeding techniques that exist so that you get to know them.
There are more and more couples with fertility problems, both by men and women. These problems are often associated with women, but the truth is that the 40% of the problems are of male origin. That is why it is necessary that after a search time without the arrival of the baby (one year for those under 35 and 6 months for those over 35 years old) take both the relevant tests to rule out any possible problem that may be affecting the fertility of one or both members of the couple. You can read the article "Possible causes of male and female infertility."
Fortunately every day science advances more and many children come into the world thanks to these reproduction techniques. In some cases it is covered by security and in others it will be necessary to resort to private clinics. If you want to know in which cases the treatment is covered by social security, do not miss the article “7 Requirements for assisted reproduction by Social Security”.
Types of breeding techniques
It is a reality that increasingly affects a greater number of couples, which leads them to resort to these fertility techniques. There are 4 different types of techniques.
- Artificial insemination. It is a simple technique for mild fertility problems. It consists of taking a semen sample from the partner or a donor and putting it right in the tubes when the woman ovulates. Depending on the case, ovarian stimulation will be done with medication or not. It will be the doctor who decides if it is necessary in your case. It does not require hospitalization or anything. After insemination, you have to wait a bit and then go home. You have more information in the article "Intrauterine insemination: what is it and what does it consist of?". Here I explain the phases in more detail.
- In Vitro Fertilization (IVF). It is a method mainly used when there are reproductive problems in women. The procedure consists of obtaining mature eggs from the woman through ovarian stimulation, which are then fertilized by the sperm of the couple or a donor. It can be done naturally (by simply putting them close together) or in severe cases of male infertility injecting a healthy one directly into the egg (ICSI). Once the embryos are obtained, they are implanted inside the woman's uterus through a cannula. Do not miss the link "Phases of in vitro fertilization" to see more details of the process.
- DGP. This technique is called Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis. It is used in cases where there are genetic problems on one or both parties. It is combined with the IVF technique and when the Embryos are biopsied to know before transferring if they have any genetic abnormalities. This way only healthy embryos are transferred.
- ROPA method. This new treatment is used to female couples. It consists of extracting the eggs from one of them, then being fertilized by a donor, which are then transferred to the couple. Thus both participate in the fertility process.
Patience, patience and patience
Starting a fertility process is not easy since many emotional aspects are involved (guilt, resentment, frustration, pain ...) and some medical aspects that we cannot control. If you are going to go through a fertility process, I advise you patience, ask the doctor all your doubts and trust. On many occasions it does not work out the first time and you have to try again. It is a reality and it must be taken into account that it sometimes happens. Get professional help if you need it.
Why remember ... do not get so obsessed with the goal, enjoy the search of each step, each phase. It is the path that will lead you to your greatest treasure.
