January 30 is celebrated in all educational centers a commemoration on the learning of Nonviolence and the promulgation of Peace. This year, as is the date indicated on Saturday, many centers have celebrated it the day before in their usual class.
The School Day of Peace and Nonviolence It is also known by its acronym DENIP and it has been held in all centers for more than 50 years. The UN has already proclaimed the International Decade for the Culture of Peace from 2001 to 2010, but DENIP had already been held for 36 years in all educational centers worldwide.
What is the origin of the School Day of Peace and Nonviolence?
This initiative was born from the proposal of the Mallorcan poet, pacifist and educator Llorenç Vidal. His inspiration has always been promoted by his way of wanting to cultivate and send that message to humanity: do not harm other human beings, do not practice violence, respect nature and make us feel free towards others.
He wanted to create a non-governmental educational day in 1964, dating it to January 30 and commemorating the death of Mahatma Gandhi, which is still celebrated to this day. For Llorenç Vidal, an education promoted with tolerance, solidarity, equality, respect for Human Rights and peace must be included.
The student must be positively integrated within all these values and to be able to reach the end of creating a just and peaceful society, where we can all live in harmony and without conflict. For Gandhi, peace was the main path that all human beings should go through, to continue avoiding so much damage, immoralities and injustice in the world.
What is promoted on this special day?
Values are the main reason for which on this day should be promoted: love, respect, freedom, peace, justice and equality. With these examples of values, activities will be carried out in the school, to bring everything with fun and accompanied by emotions. We also have social networks to promote our proposal through the hashtag #PazylaNoViolenceSchool Day.
What is each child mainly taught?
In each school You are invited to celebrate the School Day for Nonviolence and Peace, all those who want to participate are subject to proposing participation in activities where this message can be spread. You have to make it reach all children and depending on their age, what are the practices that you have to start creating:
To the children of Infantil We can create activities that make them know the emotions related to peace: joy, tranquility and love. They are figures that allow us to live in a peaceful environment. On the other hand, it is necessary to also reach all that it entails violence: anger, fear and suffering. At this age, these values must be given priority, they are the pillars of their education and they must begin to create those bonds of empathy and respect for others.
In Primary what wars symbolize and everything that derives from. The values of tolerance, respect and empathy regarding the facts and opinions of others are greatly reinforced, even if they are not shared in opinion.
In Secondary, children or adolescents are already more involved in feeling identified withhen conflict occurs and the social and cultural impact that such consequence entails. They must be made to create a critical vision of what is represented in the media when cases of violence or conflict are exposed.
You have to make them arrive that they have to believe in the ability of strategy to neutralize a dispute, even if they affect them personally. Also the transmission of a solid and strong construction among all, where behind is the symbol of peace
