Yes, I know! The Easter holidays are just around the corner. Many of you will be thinking of activities to do with your children so that they enjoy the rest days (if that is what their homework allows) to the fullest. I am going to propose something very simple: 10 stories to read to your children in spring. Also, you will already know that April is the month of books. And tomorrow is a special day: International Children's and Young People's Book Day! Do you dare to start reading any of the stories on the list today?
But the most important thing is that each of the stories encourages respect for nature and the environment from the pages. Spring seems like an incredible time for them to go camping, hiking and discovering new animals in the field. And the readings are amazing to encourage your children's curiosity and active learning. Do you dare to take a look at the list of stories to read to your children in spring?
Little Tree, by Jenny Bowers and Rachel Williams
Little Tree is the first story I have chosen for the list of stories to read to your children in spring. I gave it to my five-year-old neighbor last year and his mother has told me that he has been delighted ever since. The story tries to go through the seasons with Little Tree since it begins to grow in spring. The illustrations are full of bright colors and allow you to pay attention to a lot of details.
Go through the four seasons of the year with your Little Tree friend:
«The little seed awakens among hundreds of precious flowers and Little Tree begins to grow… Spring has arrived!».

My Little Jungle, by Katrin Wiehle
I have not had the pleasure of holding this story in my hands. But it catches my attention and I will tell you why: it is made one hundred percent with recycled paper and ecological ink! Just for that initiative it is already worth taking a look. As I have seen, the book reveals different habitats for children through simple and tender images. In addition to promoting respect for the environment.
"My little forest" leaves us with an inimitable picture of the jungle. Hand in hand with the monkey, the parrot and the jaguar, he invites the little ones to discover the jungle, climb tall trees and find wild animals that live in it, and look for delicious fruits, arousing the interest and curiosity of the youngest for the environment.

Beetle in company, by Pep Bruno and Rocío Martínez
I discovered Beetle in the company of an early childhood education class (4-5 years old) in which I spent fifteen days watching emotional education work in the classrooms. The teacher showed me it and told me that the children were delighted with the story and that it was their favorite. I took it home to read it and I knew why they liked it so much. The story stars a gang of insects from the forest, the countryside and the park that can be found in spring. Come on… original, creative and fun!
Beetle and his friends have a great time: they push a giant ball up the mountain, they look for the Centipede shoe, they prepare a very special party ... Sometimes they get bored (like any other bug), but with these friends even getting bored is fun.
It is almost mandatory that Beetle in company is on the list of stories to read to your children in spring.

Captain Verdemán, from Bethel Colombo
I also gave this story to a six-year-old girl for her birthday and she loved it. The protagonist is Captain Verdemán, a superhero who tries to rescue a city from the trash because of the waste and laziness of the inhabitants. The story is great for children to start recycling and doing simple things to respect the environment (walking to school, reusing old toys ...)
A new superhero for a new world! A small city is drowning in the piles of garbage, due to the laziness and waste of its inhabitants, but here is our Captain Verdemán, to rescue the city and show that recycling is fun. From 5 years. Captain Verdeman wants to save the planet, but he needs your help!

Julieta and the Silence of the River, by María Fiter and Romina Martí
Juliet and the silence of the river is essential on the list of stories to read to your children in spring. The story is about a family of fish that day after day they see their river filling with objects and garbage and it is increasingly difficult to live. Highly recommended to teach children the dangers of throwing things into rivers and the importance of recycling to help and improve the environment.
This is the story of a family of fish: father Barbatz, mother Juliet and little Pir, but it is also the story of a river that day by day becomes a place where it is impossible to live. Objects of all kinds, dirt and garbage accumulate in the riverbed: the fish that live there are afraid and do not understand why everything is turning dark and silent. Barbatz sets out on a journey upriver to find the answers to what is happening. The Forests (Wonderful World), by René Mettler
I admit that I fell in love with this book. I also discovered it in my time at a school and I loved it. René Mettler's Forests, like the previous one, is not a story as such either. But it is a book with which children will get to know the animals and plants that live in the forests. In addition, it will teach them that forests not only serve to obtain wood but also protect the Earth. Highly recommended to have in the library!
With this book you will discover the animals, plants and mushrooms that live in forests and you will learn that, in addition to extracting wood from them, forests serve to protect the land, water and air of our planet.

The song of the whales, by Carlos Villanes Cairo
For me, this story is the jewel in the crown. Last year I read it with the children I give private lessons to. We spent the last ten minutes of class reading The Song of the Whales. Each child read a paragraph and they loved it. And the truth is that it does not surprise me. The story is about the story of Yak and his grandfather. They are Eskimos and are known to have saved a lot of whales. This time, they will have to travel to California to help these fabulous animals again.
A story that will favor empathy towards animals and the environment. Through Yak and his grandfather, the children will understand how important it is to respect the life of the whales and educate people to help them protect them. The song of the whales had to be on the list of stories to read to your children in spring. Is beautiful!
Yak and his grandfather are Eskimos and live at the North Pole. They are famous throughout the world because they once managed to rescue some whales trapped in the ice. But, unfortunately, the dangers that threaten cetaceans are many and they again need the help of these Eskimos. So this time, Yak and his grandfather will have to travel to Baja California to try to find out the reason that makes dozens of whales appear stranded on the beaches with no apparent explanation.
