Boys and girls love to play with toy cars. Throwing a car and seeing how far it goes is great entertainment for them, but do you know what speed run? With the Hot Wheels True Speed app You'll find out. The Hot Wheels True Speed app turns your mobile on a speedometer totally real using the smartphone camera. In addition, it is very easy to handle: you just have to rest the mobile on the ground and slide the car in front of you. As you pass, the app tells you how fast the car would be going if it were a real racing car.
One of the things I liked the most is that it is a perfect solution to liven up the game both in inside and outsideIn a small space with few elements, you can prepare a very interesting and motivating activity for children. Helpful tip: place it on a flat surface with good lighting and let the cars pass by centered so the measurement is easier. stable inspection process
To determine speed, True Speed is based on the physics principle of speed = space/time. In this way, the application is able to capture the speed reached by the toy cars and convert it to scale to show what speed an equivalent real car would travel at. This calculation takes into account the typical scale of model cars (e.g., 1:64), so what the phone detects as centimeters per second is transformed into kilometers per hour comparable to those of a racing car.
Competition mode
I loved this part. The app has a competition mode in which several players can measure their skill to see who can race the fastest car. records are saved in the application along with the name of the pilot, making it easy to organize small leagues with family or friends. They can also share on social media, a perfect extra to add excitement and keep motivation up. Tip: set up a common ramp or track for everyone and mark a common launch area to get comparable results.
Combining mobile devices with real toys
Behind this idea is the increasing use that children make of mobile devices to the detriment of the use of physical toys. True Speed integrates both worlds into a proposal that encourages creativity and the healthy one competitiveness, and it works with cars of all brands, not just with Hot Wheels. The app was created by the Lola Agency and has been recognized for its originality in the The Sun Festival advertising communication, a good example of how brands adapt to the mobile environment with useful and different proposals.
Important Note: This measurement app should not be confused with a racing video game called "TRUE SPEED" that offers story, pursuit, and time trial modes, more than 40 car models, and 42 tracks in forests, beaches, and mountains. Our protagonist here is the Hot Wheels app which measures real speeds of toy cars using the camera.
The worst thing is that the app can only be download from the Apple Store, at least for now. It's an option iPhone only and, depending on availability, free downloadIf you're using Android, you can replicate the experience by tracking distances, timing, and calculating speed with a calculator, but the convenience of True Speed is hard to match.
