During the summer holidays children have a lot of free time. We can take advantage of those hours when it is not possible to do activities outside due to high temperatures to do some fun experiments.
Children are naturally curious and love to make their own discoveries. Through these experiments your children can approach the world of science in a very fun and entertaining way. They are sure to love them!
Experiment on buoyancy
Buoyancy is the ability of an object to float. We are going to discover that some objects float and others do not.
Material needed for this experiment: Container with water (the bigger the better), a piece of plasticine and different small objects of different shapes and sizes (cork, toy cars, small balls, teaspoons, etc.)
Roll the clay into a ball the size of a tennis ball and place it in the water. Does it float? Then give the plasticine ball the shape of a boat and place it back in the water. What happens now?
Let your children experiment with the different objects that you have prepared and let them draw their own conclusions. The magic is in the discovery process and not in the results.
Creating fog is possible
Fog is a phenomenon that generally fascinates children.
Materials needed for this experiment: a crystal glass, ice cubes, hot water, and a strainer.
Fill the glass to the top with the hot water. Wait a few seconds for the glass to heat up and empty half. Now put three ice cubes in the strainer and place it on top of the glass. What happens then?
Foam volcano
This experiment usually fascinates the little ones because the results are spectacular and the process is very simple.
Materials needed: Glass jar, baking soda, vinegar, food coloring and dish soap.
First fill the jar with the vinegar halfway. Then add a few drops of food coloring and mix well. Then add two tablespoons of dishwasher and stir again. And finally add a teaspoon of baking soda. And, the lava show begins ... Once the effect is over you can add a little more bicarbonate and the volcano will continue to erupt.
Whose footprint is this?
Materials needed for this experiment: colored play dough, talcum powder, masking tape, a glass that each of your family members has drunk from, and a makeup brush
The first thing is to use a piece of plasticine to print the fingerprint of each one of you. Take the different glasses and with the makeup brush put a little talcum powder or similar, on top. Then put a piece of masking tape over the footprints. You can now compare them with the plasticine molds and play to discover whose each one of the glasses is.
A nebula in a jar?
For this experiment you need the following material: Cotton, water, glitter, paint of different colors and a glass jar.
Start by filling one third of the jar with water. Add a little paint and shake hard to mix it up and then add some glitter. Now put some cotton in the jar and repeat the same process with paint of another color. You can repeat the process a third time. Time to contemplate the result, amazing, right?
Tornado in a bottle
To make your own tornado you only need a transparent bottle, water, liquid dishwasher and glitter.
First fill the bottle three-quarters full with water, add a splash of dishwasher and a little bit of glitter. Time to close the bottle and turn it upside down. You must rotate the bottle with circular movements for a few seconds and you are ready to enjoy the show.
bottles of different densities
Material needed for this experiment: transparent plastic bottles, a funnel and liquids of different densities (oil, water, alcohol, soap, etc.)
It is about adding the different liquids to the bottle, starting with the densest. See what happens with the different liquids.
