Water is an essential element for life, both for human beings and for other living beings, as for the existence of planet Earth itself. In fact, the human body is made up of 70% water, curiously the same percentage of water that makes up the Earth. But despite knowing the importance of this natural resource, water is still being misused, which is destroying our planet and with it the possibility of life on it.
Raise awareness among children The importance of water, as well as its conservation and the proper use of it, is fundamental. The children of today will be the adults of tomorrow, in them it is the responsibility of being able to conserve our planet as we know it today. Therefore, in the hands of parents, educators and caregivers of children, is the responsibility of teaching them to take care of this precious asset.
However, it is not always easy to get the message to children, no matter how many simple words you can use. Children need other types of supports to understand this message, such as visual support that turns the message into something functional. For this reason, play and recreational activities offer the best way to teach children.
Scientific experiments
Among the activities that we can do with children, there are scientific experiments. A fun, educational and special way to teach children how important things work, like water.
In this link, you can find different science experiments to do with children, with which you can spend a fun day playing a different game. Also, to celebrate World Water Day today, we are going to see some experiments with water to enjoy with the little ones.
Storm in a bottle
With this simple experiment you can create a little storm inside a jar of Cristal. In this way, children can easily understand what this atmospheric phenomenon consists of.
The materials needed are as follows:
- A jar crystal
- Water
- Cubes of ice
- A small plate, the kind that is usually used for dessert or for cups of coffee
Step by step of the experiment:
- First you will have to boil water in a saucepan, when ready, fill a glass jar taking care that no one burns
- Then place the plate over the spout of the jar and put some ice cubes on top
- Observe with the children what happens next
What is going to happen is that the hot water will create steam, which will rise towards the spout of the jar. Upon reaching the surface of the plate, the steam will cool down as a result of the ice and a small condensation cloud will form. When the condensation reaches the base of the dish, it will begin to fall downward in a small storm.
The water that dances
In this case it is about forming a kind of lava lamp, like the ones you can find in many shops. A fun and easy experiment to do, in which children can be involved as it does not involve any risk.
The materials you will need are:
- Several glasses for water
- water
- cfood odor different colored
The step by step of this experiment:
- You just have to fill each glass with water and leave them in absolute rest for a few minutes
- Once the water is completely still, add a few drops of food coloring in each glass
- Observe what happens then
What is going to happen is the following, water is made up of molecules that are always in motion. When you pour the dye into the water, these moving molecules will begin to push the dye so that it dissolves in the water. With this, the coloring does not stop moving up, down and to the sides in the water, thus creating a nice and fun effect.
