Today is World Tree Day, a date that serves to remember the importance of protecting and caring for these very important living beings. Nature is a key element for the planet, for all living beings and especially for human beings. Trees give us shade, they provide us with food through their fruits, and through photosynthesis they provide us with the oxygen we breathe.
With this reminder date, it is intended raise awareness about the importance of reducing indiscriminate felling of trees. Trees fulfill a series of very important functions for the survival of all living things. For this reason, we can take advantage of this special occasion to teach our children the importance of caring for nature.
How children learn best is through example, parents are the mirror in which the little ones look at themselves. Organize a series of activities to commemorate World Tree Day as a family. Your children will learn environmental awareness in the best possible way, learning from their elders.
Activities for World Family Tree Day
If your children are already going to school, they will surely already know the importance of trees and what their functions are. But it never hurts to do a review, and it will also serve as a reminder for ourselves. Prepare a short script, where you have the key points about the functions of trees. Organize an excursion to a park or a forest that you have close.
Sit on the ground in contact with nature, this will create an ideal environment for you to talk to your children about the trees. Encourage them to touch the bark of the trees, look at its greatness, and compare it to other trees and plants nearby. All information should be explained in words that children can understand. With this we intend that children understand the importance of being respectful with the environment.
Cleaning a wooded area
It is summer and as it happens every year, the danger of fires increases dangerously. Keeping forests clean is essential to prevent fire. Explain to your children why the remains that are left in the forest can be so dangerous, they will learn to collect all their things before leaving. And as an extra activity for this special Day, clean an area of the park or forest where you are. You will be a group of volunteers worthy of admiration.
Volunteer groups are often organized to clean green areas. Find out if there is any organization in your area volunteer day to which you can sign up. All help will be well received.
Plant a tree
The only way to repopulate forests is by planting new trees. If you have a small garden or an outdoor area inside your house, you can take advantage of a free space to plant a tree. Find a greenhouse in your area where you can buy a small tree that you can plant in your house. First you will have to look for different kinds of trees to find the most suitable for the terrain conditions.
You will all have to take care of watering and caring for the tree so that it can grow and become very large. See every day how a tree that you have planted grows, it is a once in a lifetime experience for a child.
Crafts
When you make the excursion to the forest, observe the different types of trees, pick up leaves that you find on the ground, small twigs or pieces of bark. Once back home, organize an afternoon of crafts with the elements that you collected from nature. You can use a very large cardboard to make this craft. First draw the shape of the chosen tree all over the cardboardThen cover the trunk with the bark of the trees. Glue the twigs and on them the leaves that you picked in the forest.
Memorial days serve as a reminder to us. Spending a day studying and caring for nature is very good but it is insufficient. Fathers and mothers, we have a duty to teach children to take care of the environment every day.
