If you are pregnant, surely you have heard the term of fetal suffering. In simple terms, we could define fetal suffering as the phenomenon that occurs when, for some reason, the baby in the uterus does not receive oxygen and / or adequate food for its normal development.
El fetal suffering It can manifest itself in two ways: acute or chronic. The acute occurs when the lack of oxygen is generated abruptly. It is the one that is usually detected during labor and the presence of contractions to which the baby cannot adapt. It can also be due to an accident with the umbilical cord or an alteration in the placenta. When it is detected that the baby is suffering, it is indicated to hasten the birth so that the lack of oxygen can damage it.
Chronic fetal distress occurs when the lack of oxygen and nutrients settles slowly, giving the baby time to get used to this environment. This type of suffering is not considered an obstetric emergency, but rather an indication to take extreme control of the baby and try to modify the cause that causes it.
To prevent fetal distress from occurring, proper monitoring must be carried out during pregnancy and delivery to prevent future damage to the baby.
